What the recipient gets
A card in their phone with the issuer's branding, the balance on the front, and no step between receiving it and spending it. If it is a present, the buyer sends a link; if it is a promotion, the QR is on the poster. Either way there is nothing to activate.
It can be topped up
A gift card and a prepaid balance are the same object here, so a one-off present can become a regular account.
It redeems partially
Spend part of it, and the rest stays on the card with the balance updated on the pass.
