Modern B2B Fuel Cards on Apple Wallet & Google Wallet
Fuel networks serve corporate customers with digital fuel cards. Each driver gets a Wallet card with individual limits. Reserve funds before dispensing, confirm actual amount after. Same balance also works online — for tolls, insurance, and partner e-shops through the 7Konto checkout widget or PSP embedding. Alternative to WEX, FleetOne, and paper vouchers.
Three parties, one platform
Fuel networks operate the platform. Transport companies configure programs. Drivers use the cards. Everyone benefits.
Fuel Networks
Offer modern B2B fuel card programs to corporate customers without proprietary hardware or 6-12 month development projects.
Outcome
Retain existing corporate customers. Compete with WEX/FleetOne on your own terms.
Transport & Logistics Companies
Give each driver individual limits, category restrictions, and real-time controls. Full visibility into fleet fuel spend.
Outcome
Reduce fuel fraud. Streamline expense management. Better cost control.
Banks & Acquirers
Offer white-label B2B fuel card programs to your corporate customers. Position as your own product, not third-party.
Outcome
New revenue stream. Merchant retention. Corporate customer acquisition tool.
Reserve first, confirm actual amount after
The reservation flow is what makes B2B fuel actually work. It matches how real fueling operations happen — you don't know the exact amount until fuel is dispensed.
Driver arrives at station
Driver approaches the pump with fuel card in wallet. Attendant is ready to serve.
Reserve maximum amount
Attendant enters expected max ($100 or tank capacity value). Platform reserves this against driver's daily limit AND employer's balance.
Fuel dispensed
Fuel is dispensed normally. Actual amount is calculated (e.g., $87 worth). Reservation stays active during pumping.
Confirm actual amount
Attendant confirms actual amount. Platform charges exactly $87. Remaining $13 reservation is released back to available balance.
Prevents overdrafts
Funds reserved upfront. Driver cannot exceed daily limit or employer's balance. No liability exposure for fuel network.
Matches real fuel operations
Reserve-then-confirm is how open-loop credit cards work at fuel pumps today. Familiar to attendants and drivers.
Precise reporting
Actual fuel amounts recorded, not reservation amounts. Employer reports match what drivers actually spent.
Works on any terminal
POS terminal at attended stations. Mobile app on any Android/iOS device for stations without terminals. Same flow either way.
Eight per-driver control dimensions
Every driver can have unique limits based on their role, vehicle, route, and responsibility.
| Control Type | Example Configuration |
|---|---|
| Daily maximum | $300/day per driver |
| Monthly cap | $5,000/month per driver |
| Per-transaction limit | $150 max per fill-up |
| Fuel type restrictions | Regular only, no premium |
| Time windows | Working hours (6 AM - 8 PM) |
| Day-of-week | Weekdays only, no weekends |
| Station whitelist | Only specific stations in fleet route |
| Geographic zones | Only within delivery region |
All controls configurable per individual driver, per driver group, or globally.
How 7Konto compares
Alternative
WEX / FleetOne
Their model
Specialized fleet card providers with proprietary infrastructure. Bank/fuel network becomes reseller.
7Konto advantage
Bank/fuel network owns the customer relationship. Under own brand. Not routing through third party. Better economics.
Alternative
Corporate credit cards for fuel
Their model
Corporate Visa/Mastercard given to drivers. Broad spending capabilities, high interchange fees.
7Konto advantage
Closed-loop with driver-level limits. Category-locked to fuel only. No interchange fees. No fraud risk from card loss.
Alternative
Paper fuel vouchers
Their model
Printed vouchers distributed to drivers. Physical, easily lost, no real-time control.
7Konto advantage
Digital wallet card. Real-time limits. No counterfeiting. No lost vouchers. Modern experience for drivers.
Alternative
Custom fuel network apps
Their model
Fuel network builds their own driver app. 6-12 months development. Ongoing maintenance burden.
7Konto advantage
Weeks not months. No customer app required. Apple Wallet / Google Wallet used directly. Zero customer app maintenance.
Three typical deployment models
Regional fuel chain expanding to B2B
Situation
Regional fuel chain with 50-200 stations wants to serve transport companies. Currently only accepts cash and cards.
Approach
Deploy 7Konto across station network in 2-3 weeks. Onboard 5-10 transport company pilot customers. Scale to full B2B customer base over 6-12 months.
Scale
50-200 stations, 20-100 corporate customers, 500-5,000 drivers
Major fuel network offering corporate programs
Situation
National fuel network with 500+ stations. Existing WEX/FleetOne relationship but seeking own-brand alternative.
Approach
Deploy 7Konto in parallel to existing systems. Migrate corporate customers gradually. Full white-label under fuel network brand.
Scale
500-2,000 stations, 200-500 corporate customers, 5,000-50,000 drivers
Bank offering fuel programs to corporate clients
Situation
Bank with 100+ corporate customers who have fleet operations. Wants to offer fuel card program as part of corporate banking.
Approach
Bank partners with fuel networks in customer regions. White-label 7Konto under bank brand. Bank sells to corporate customers.
Scale
Depends on bank's corporate portfolio and fuel network partnerships
Technical and business questions
How does fuel reservation actually work — technically?
Two-phase transaction. Phase 1: attendant sends reservation request with amount. Platform checks driver limit, employer balance, other constraints. If OK, reservation is created (funds appear as "committed" but not yet spent). Phase 2: after fueling, attendant sends confirmation request with actual amount. Platform charges the actual amount, releases the excess reservation. Total time: about 5 seconds for reservation, another 5 seconds for confirmation. Works over REST API with idempotency guarantees.
What if the attendant doesn't confirm — what happens to the reservation?
Reservations auto-expire after a configurable timeout (typically 15-60 minutes). If not confirmed within that window, the reservation is released and funds return to available balance. Also supports explicit cancellation if the attendant knows the transaction didn't happen.
Can we support attended and self-service (unattended) stations?
Fully attended stations: yes, standard integration. Attended stations without POS terminals: yes, we provide mobile app for attendants. Fully self-service (customer pays at pump without human interaction): requires additional hardware integration with pump controllers — this is on our roadmap but not part of standard deployment. For the initial rollout, attended stations are our focus.
What about diesel vs gasoline vs premium — how are fuel types handled?
Fuel types are configured as categories. Per-driver rules can restrict fuel types (e.g., "diesel only" or "no premium"). Reports break down by fuel type. If a station attempts to charge a driver for a restricted fuel type, the transaction is declined at reservation stage — driver can only fuel what they're allowed to.
How does the mobile app work for stations without POS terminals?
Free 7Konto mobile app installs on any Android or iOS device. Station attendant opens the app, enters expected fuel amount, app displays QR code. Driver scans QR from their Wallet card app. Transaction is created as reservation. After fueling, attendant confirms actual amount in app. Simple, no hardware cost for the fuel network.
What about corporate credit terms vs. prepaid?
Both supported. Prepaid: transport company preloads balance in advance, drivers spend from that balance. Credit: transport company has an agreed credit line with the fuel network (typical 15-30 day payment terms). Reservation phase checks against credit limit; monthly invoicing handles the accounting. Choose whichever works for your commercial relationships.
How is fraud handled — what if a driver tries to fuel someone else's car?
Multiple layers. (1) Driver's Wallet card is on their personal phone — hard to share physically. (2) Attendant sees driver info (name, employee ID, photo optionally) during transaction. (3) Suspicious pattern detection: unusual volumes, unusual locations, unusual timing. (4) Employer can flag disputed transactions for investigation. (5) Complete audit trail if disputes escalate. Fraud rates are typically much lower than open-loop credit cards.
How much does this cost for the fuel network?
Standard pricing: $149/month for the fuel network on Network tier (up to 5 locations, 10 terminals, 10,000 transactions/month). For growing fuel chains with more locations, Scale tier at $349/month covers up to 20 locations with 30,000 transactions. For large fuel networks (50+ stations, 5,000+ transactions/month), Enterprise pricing with volume discounts and unlimited locations. Fuel network typically passes cost through to transport companies as a service fee, or absorbs it as cost of doing B2B business.
How does the bank monetize a fuel card program?
Several models: (1) revenue share on transaction fees paid by fuel networks or transport companies, (2) percentage of program volume paid by fuel networks in exchange for bringing corporate customers, (3) service fees to transport companies for accessing multiple fuel networks through one program. Specific terms discussed in commercial call.
Can we integrate with our existing fleet management software?
Yes, via REST API + webhooks. Common integrations: sync driver records from fleet management to 7Konto, push transaction data from 7Konto back to fleet reports, unified dashboards. Popular fleet management platforms are supported with pre-built connectors on request.
What data do we get for compliance and accounting?
Everything. Every transaction: driver, station, timestamp, fuel type, quantity, amount, reservation ID, confirmation ID. Aggregated reports: fleet-wide spend, per-driver spend, geographic patterns, time-of-day patterns, station preferences. Exportable to CSV, PDF, or via API. Full audit trail. Compliant with tax and accounting requirements in most jurisdictions.
How do we handle a transport company that stops paying?
For credit-based accounts: after configurable overdue period, account can be suspended. Drivers' cards stop working immediately. Existing reservations are honored or cancelled per policy. For prepaid: they just can't fuel until they top up. Full audit trail supports any legal proceedings if needed. Standard collections processes apply.
