POS Terminal
A Point of Sale hardware device used by merchants to process customer payments, typically issued by an acquiring bank.
Definition
A POS (Point of Sale) terminal is the hardware device that merchants use to accept card payments at checkout. Modern POS terminals from PAX, Verifone, Ingenico and others can process traditional card payments, contactless payments, mobile wallet payments, and can display QR codes on their screens. Many terminals also run apps and can be extended with custom software.
Examples
PAX terminals (widely used in retail)
Verifone terminals (common in hospitality)
Ingenico terminals (popular in Europe)
Android-based smart POS terminals
How 7Konto uses this
7Konto works with the merchant's existing POS terminal. The cashier enters the transaction amount on the terminal, the terminal displays a QR code, and the customer scans it with their phone to complete the closed-loop transaction. No new hardware needed — 7Konto extends what the terminal can do without replacing it.
